This past weekend, The Mermaid's soccer team had their year-end pizza party. This is The Mermaid's fourth season of playing soccer, and she loves it. She gets right in there and really works hard to learn the game and score goals.
The Mermaid and The Guppy at the pizza party. Note The Mermaid's medal. And her mis-matched socks. And The Guppy's tongue. Also? I think The Mermaid might be picking a wedgie in this picture. And yes, despite all these glaring flaws, I still posted it here. Because that's how I roll, yo.This is The Guppy's first season of soccer. I like to bring my knitting to her games, because after the first two minutes of playing, she usually asks to sit out for the rest of the game. If the ball comes near her, she turns and runs away.
Needless to say, I think next time we will sign her up for dance instead of soccer.
What sports do your kids play, and have they enjoyed all the sports you signed them up for?

My kids have tried lots of sports and activities, and they generally like them. However I do find that they each have different favorites and reasons they like or dislike particular activities. I feel that it is important for them to try a variety of things so they can decide what they like best based on their experiences, not my own.
It for this reason that I love our YMCA membership because they offer many different classes (sports, music, swimming, dance, drama, Spanish, science, etc) during each session, which allows the kids to try new things in a familiar setting. Then if they like it, I can search for other options to learn more (specific teams, music lessons, museum programs).
So much of a child's experience depends on their personality and the other people involved (coach & other kids). So sometimes giving an activity a second try in a different environment results in a better experience. For example, if they take an outdoor swimming lesson and it is cold & rainy during their class and they don't want to get in the water, then it might be better to try it again at a heated indoor pool a few months later rather than giving up on swimming. But if they refuse to get dressed for dance class each week, it is probably a sign that it isn't their thing.
Good luck with the extra-curriculars!
