Backyard Safari Outfitters.

We have a lovely backyard, but it's small. I imagine that after two years of living here and spending a lot of time in that yard, it has gotten a little "old" to the girls.

Team Mom gave me a chance to try out a few Backyard Safari Outfitters products. They send us the Backyard Safari Outfitter's cargo vest, the Bug Vacuum, and the Mega-View Periscope. Armed with these three tools, the girls were able to explore the backyard in a way they haven't ever done before.

They had a blast, especially using the bug vacuum to examine our backyard bugs up close! It really encouraged them to play outside and be active.

You can find out more about these great products at the Backyard Safari Outfitters website, or buy them at Toys R Us, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Amazon.com, and Target.

Olivia!

My girls love Olivia. Occasionally we watch the show on Nick Jr., but mostly they love to sit with me and read the books.

Team Mom recently sent me a Olivia 2-in-1 Transforming Playset and an Olivia 8'' Plush toy to try out. The girls immediately fell in love with both.

I love that the 2-in-1 Playset transforms from a house to a pirate ship with a simple slide of a switch. Pretty cool. Everything stays contained and neat, and it is now one of the girls' favorite toys.

The Guppy especially loves the plush doll. It's now her favorite toy to snuggle with at night.

Both toys are available at Toys "R" Us, Target, and Kmart. You can find out more about both products here.

David Garrett, Yum

Thanks to Music Moms, I was given a chance to check out David Garrett's new CD, Rock Symphonies.

Can I just say, what talent. I love listening to these classic rock songs blended with Garrett's unique violin skills.

About Garrett:

"David Garrett, named best-selling new classical artist of 2009, has released a groundbreaking second album...to the delight of fans around the world. Aptly titled Rock Symphonies, the album uniquely blends the former child prodigy's impressive violin skills with classic rock-and-roll songs from bands such as Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Nirvana to bring a fresh spin on the genre to a new generation of music lovers. Garrett has toured all over the world and has appeared on Oprah, The Today Show, and Good Morning America."

And not only is he talented, but he is VERY easy on the eyes!

Rock Symphonies debuted at #2 on the Billboard Classical Crossover chart and is available at Best Buy, iTunes, and Amazon.com

For more information about David Garrett, visit his website.

Booze and Cakes, and Bento, Too

Sometimes getting picky eaters to eat healthy food can be a real battle. I've always been intrigued by the idea of Bento lunches to convince my picky eater to eat her healthy food, so I was glad to get the chance to take a look at Yum-Yum Bento Box.
Let me tell you, Bento lunches are not lunches. It is art. And while I do not have the discipline or energy to create such beautiful edible art, this book made me wish I did! Easy instructions, colorful pictures, and tips and tricks, it really is the book for those who want to create Bento.

Check out the book page for more information. I loved this book, drooled over the creations, and ached to make my own bento. Definitely worth checking out.

And so, maybe I don't have the time and energy to do anything more than drool at Bento lunches. But one thing that I do have the energy for:

Yup, Booze Cakes. Another great book full of delectable recipes. It offers a handy "Booze Meter" to track how strong the alcohol content is in each delicious desert. And LOTS of recipes.

You can find out more information here.

So basically, after you've spent all day making beautiful and healthy bento art, you can relax at the end of the day and enjoy a perfect nightcap in a spiked confection. Sounds like a good day to me!!

Singing Along (With Giveaway)

Lately I've been listening to this song... it seems kind of fitting, as I move into welcoming a new life into my arms while letting go of a love that was in my life all at the same time.

Does that ever happen to you? Where a certain song has phrases and lyrics that just jump out at you, and make complete sense to where you are in life?

"Maybe I'm a fool, but being foolish gets me closer...Everything I do is doing anything to hold you...My heart is on the edge, it's true...But I'll walk out on the ledge for you."

I admit, Micheal Bolton is not someone I would ever think to have found inspiration in. But his newest CD is pretty cool, a bit different from his earlier ones.

So, I sit and wait for this baby. For whatever is next in my life. And in the meantime...I just keep singing along.

Triscuit: Helping Families in Home Farming

I love Triscuit crackers. A healthier snack that reminds me of great cheese, wine, and friends.

And I LOVE that they have teamed up with UrbanFarming.org for the Home Farming Movement. I was excited to see this partnership announced back in March on the Ellen Show.

According to the website:
From rural areas to urban communities, home farms are sprouting up all over the country. And it's only just begun. Triscuit has created this site with help from Urban Farming, a non-profit organization, to help build a home farming community where both beginners and more seasoned gardeners can dialogue and gather information towards their common mission: to reap food that is deliciously fresh, penny-wise, healthier for themselves and the planet. It’s about home farming, and the everyday joy that grows out of it. So join us and let’s get farming!

As part of the program, Triscuit is now giving away plant-able seed cards in four million boxes of Triscuits!

I already have my box of Triscuits and the girls and I are so excited to plant our seeds and officially start our first home garden.

You can visit the Kraft website for more information on growing your own garden, including how to find other community farms. You can also visit UrbanFarming.org for more information on the movement and ways to start your own home farm.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Triscuit and received the product necessary to facilitate my candid review. In addition, I received a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

Girl Time (With Giveaway!)

She's not usually the girly one in the family, but she does love to have her nails painted. Begged me to paint her nails, actually. But I resisted; the chemical smell alone of nail polish makes me sick and gives me headaches, why would I want to expose my child to that?

But then Kaiya from Non-Toxic Tots graciously sent me some Piggy Paint natural nail polish and Piggy Paint natural nail polish remover to review.
No toxic and smelly fumes. No worries about dangerous chemicals. No garish colors that would look tacky on a 5 year old.

Just quality time with my big girl, giggling and painting our nails.

Either my camera is playing a trick on me, or she just got a little bit older.
My big girl. My beauty. My heart.

Giveaway: Kaiya is offering one lucky reader a $20 gift certificate to Non-Toxic Tots. To enter, just visit Non-Toxic Tots and look around, then come back here and leave a comment on which product you love.

For extra entries (please leave a separate comment for each entry):
~ Join the Non-Toxic Tots fan page on Facebook
~ Tweet about this giveaway (just add @roxanne600 to your tweet)
~ Blog about this giveaway
~ Subscribe to my blog or follow me.

I will choose a random winner on Friday, April 23rd. Good luck!

Wholesome Foods For Fur Babies, Too

Lately I've been talking about eating wholesome foods as a family. It got me thinking about what we feed our fur babies, too. I grew up with all sorts of animals: cats, birds, horses, guinea pigs, and of course, dogs.

I was always closest with our dogs growing up. I remember that the dogs would drive my mother crazy though, with all their shedding and scratching. We would have to sweep the floor multiple times a day just to keep up with all that hair!!

I didn't realize that shedding hair and having itchy skin was so related to a dog's nutrition, even though it makes sense. That's why Dinovite is sponsoring this post; because they want to get the information out and let people know that your dog doesn't have to shed everywhere and be uncomfortable with itchy skin.

According to Dinovite:

Did you know that healthy dogs, no matter their breed, DON'T SHED year 'round? Did you know that dogs should not stink, itch and scratch all day and all night? So why do so many dogs shed, stink and itch? Commercial dog food is
cooked at extremely high temperatures and this destroys many of the delicate
nutrients your dog needs to be healthy. Basically, our pets walk around in a
slight state of malnourishment, missing things like delicate vitamins, minerals,
digestive enzymes, beneficial bacteria, essential fatty acids. Excessive
shedding, itchy skin and stink are usually signs of a nutritional deficiency.

I highly encourage you to check out Dinovite. They have a great solutions center that includes a customized solutions guide that helps you choose which products would work best for your dog. I like how their products are all natural, and that they also provide natural shampoos made of essential oils.

After all, if you think about it, if you are taking steps to ensure your family gets proper nutrition, it makes sense to include the family fur babies, no?

Obama: The Historic Journey

I was really excited when MotherTalk recently sent me a copy of Obama: The Historic Journey the young reader's edition. Besides being a fan of Obama, his election was a historical one and I thought it was great way to teach children about the election.

The book contains over 200 color photos depicting Obama's life, family, and political career. The book is easy and enjoyable to read, and covers everything from Obama's childhood to his family to his journey to become the President of the United States.

What I really like about this book is that the authors take the time to compare each candidate's stance on issues and other logistics about the election. There's also a lot of neat trivia facts, like what Obama's favorite books, movies, and music are.

All in all, love the book and highly recommend it to all young readers (and parents of young readers).
